Watchdog in Action:
Every Home Office does not need a Paper Shredder. However, if you do want one for any type of security reason (identity theft, etc.) then please turn on your Paper Shredder only when used. Do not leave them on waiting around for hours, days, or weeks to shred one page of bank correspondence.

- We have yet to see a SLEEP MODE on Paper Shredders, so NO saving SOME energy here.

- Shutting off any office equipment that will not be used within the next twenty minutes is a better way to save energy. Shutting off saves MORE energy.

- Saving ALL the energy is done by using a Power Strip that protects your equipment against power surges. (Power Surges, aka spikes or drops in voltage are more common from your utility company than lightning strikes which will fry everything no matter what Power Strip you have when there is a "direct" strike) This allows you to turn off the Paper Shredder all together. You can mount your Power Strip on the side or back of the table so it is within easy reach. This will allow you to shut off your Shredder and then turn off the switch on the Power Strip stopping all electrical consumption.

That is easy and you are now saving 100% on the electric bill, because the appliance can no longer draw any electricity through the plug to maintain a standby mode if your Paper Shredder even has that feature.

Watchdog in Action:
Another tremendous drawback caused by us when using Paper Shredders is that most of us fail to recycle the shredded paper collected in the bin. Thus forgetting about our children's future on this planet.
