KITCHEN APPLIANCES - Dish Washers
Energy saving steps to do when using the dishwasher...
|

Don't forget to shut off the digital display when not in use. |
The most energy efficient Dishwashers made today will save at least 41% of the energy used compared to older models and well over 50% compared to models that are ten years old or more.
The following steps should be Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for you, no matter what kind or how old your Dishwasher is:
- DO NOT wash your dishes before putting them in the Dishwasher.
(Just remove any excess food into your transport compost container)
- Use the correct amount of detergent needed with a measuring spoon.
- Only run the Dishwasher when full.
- Select the correct cycle or feature for the type of load you are washing.
(This step alone can save an additional 30%) For example: When guests is over, just wash ONLY glasses on their cycle, about 20 minutes long and then all dishes for their approximate 70 minute cycle. (times depend on model)
- If your Utility company offers lower rates during off-peak evening hours, then use the start delay feature.
- If you wipe off the excess food, the pre-rinse feature shouldn't be necessary.
- Try not to use the heat-dry cycle, instead use the air-dry option.
- Don't forget to shut off the digital display screen on your Dishwasher when not in use. (see blue arrow in photo on left)
