Steps to take with Electric Stoves for reducing energy bills:
1.) Always use an electrical element / coil (burner) that is the matching size to the bottom of your pot.
Placing a small pot on the larger size electrical element or coil is a waste of electricity and heat created.
2.) Stir, Stir, and Stir some more!
The heat distribution from an electric stove is only at the surface of the electrical element and only provides direct contact heat to the BOTTOM of your pot.
3.) Always keep the LID on when you are not stirring!
This will help hold the heat building up in the pot.
4.) Use the different settings for what and how you are cooking.
Don't just use HIGH all the time. First start off with HIGH to get the electric element heated, but if you are just putting food on to simmer, immediately go to the LOWEST setting and take advantage of residual heat.
5.) Shut the electrical element off just prior to the food being done.
You will have to be the judge of this, but even if you can shut off the electrical element a few minutes before the food is completely done because the residual heat will finish cooking the food, then do so. This all adds up to big savings over a year.
