LIGHTING page four
America's economy grew over 60% from 1982 to 1998, while our energy consumption remained the same! This data cited from E-The Environmental Magazine; January 1998, proves that energy savings steps really work when done right.
LIGHT LEVEL LOST:
By just changing a light bulb you will not only save yourself money, but drums of oil for America! A government study reported in the late 1980s that if everyone in the state of Massachusetts were to use an energy saving light bulb instead of the 1928 design bulb and the most energy efficient refrigerator made at the time with the Freezer on the top, one power plant would be able to shut down in that state!
Shut Down one power plant!
One high efficient energy saving bulb eliminates, over its lifetime, 524 pounds of coal or approximately 350 pounds of carbon or saves almost half a barrel of oil!
Fewer power plants translate into helping solve problems with: Acid Rain, Greenhouse Effect, Nuclear Waste, Air Pollution, high electric rates, high electric bills and more!
Watchdog in Action:
Standard Incandescent light bulbs will LOSE up to 45% of their light output with use. However, you continue to pay for the full wattage of the bulb!
For Example:
After a 100 watt bulb is on for about 420 hours (about 12 hours a day for 5 weeks) that bulb will lose light level and only "give off" or "put out" 55 watts of light!
Meanwhile, you still pay for 100 watts of electricity!
Then after 750 hours or about four weeks later, the bulb will burn out!
This is why when replacing a burned out bulb, the new bulb of the same wattage is much brighter than the bulb that just burned out.
The better made energy saving bulbs lose only 10% to 15% of their light output over their much longer life which is about 2 1/2 years when on 12 hours a day...
Over 27 years if used less than one hour per day!
These better made bulbs realize up to 76% savings in electricity and energy.
