LIGHTING page two

Even though most items in the home today are technologically up to date, most of us are still using the standard light bulb that was designed in 1928!

ELECTRIC LIGHT BULB HEATERS:

Thank you for reading this section and giving EHW the opportunity to earn your respect. We are working hard to explain facts and squelched all the misinformation out there on lighting. We have heard many stories, half truths, and lies by the process of omission over the decades. The worst part is that we heard all this misinformation from many different sources that anybody would trust. Sources such as architects to lighting designers, from manufacturers to sales people, and from electricians to doctors. Unfortunately all this misinformation is costing us Big-Time. Nevertheless, EHW has and is working with many professionals who are striving to set the record straight.

Watchdog in Action:
A 1928 designed Incandescent light bulb creates mostly heat and has a life of about 750 hours!

light bulb, incandescent
Only about 10% of the electrical energy produces light, 90% produces HEAT!
-That is why these bulbs are hot to the touch after being on for a few minutes.

Watchdog in Action:
Quartz lights are NOT much better than the 1928 light bulb!
(a few examples shown below)
halogen bulbs . halogen tube . halogen spot. Halogen bulbs. halogen screw in bulbs

Yes, these Halogen Quartz bulbs are smaller to fit in with more decor...
BUT maybe we are being sold a Bill Of Goods!

Yes, they last longer...
BUT they are suppose to last 2,000 hours and most of the time they DO NOT because of the tremendous amount of heat Halogens create. If the heat is trapped around the bulb in a fixture, they can burn out faster than the 750 hours of an incandescent bulb. Some old designs of Halogen bulbs will burn out even faster if you touched the glass of these Halogen bulbs when installing - natural oils from our skin will be left behind on the glass. The crazy amount of heat created by Halogens will heat this oil on the glass, causing a compromising affect on the glass envelope thus burning the Halogen bulb out within a very short period of time. Halogens get so hot you can't touch these bulbs after being on for several seconds.

Yes, they offer a very small amount of savings on your electric bill...
BUT
what you save off the electric bill is only a few dollars by the time the Halogen burns out and a replacement bulb will cost you an average of $9.00.
More than what you saved on the electric bill!
