March 31, 2010: We found America's Greenest Building and it is a Monastery.
That is correct, the Greenest Building in America with a Platinum LEED rating of 63 out of 69 belongs to the Benedictine Women of Madison's Holy Wisdom Monastery. More on this story...
March 17, 2010: The Seattle Times has reported on the planning for America's Greenest Building to date.
At EHW we recognize many so called "GREEN" buildings in our nation, but as we have been saying for years: "At best they are a shade of green." Yes, these buildings are eco-friendly, but only because they met some LEED requirements or addressed some energy saving steps. We have yet to see all areas fully addressed in order to be a "true green zero footprint" structure. This new HQ for Bullitt Foundation may come very close as it plans to use solar and rainwater from the roof to be almost entirely off-grid. July 1, 2009: SPACEPORT AMERICA to use Earth's subterranean temperatures to warm and cool facility.
They recently broke ground at the location for Virgin Galactic's spaceport in New Mexico. The facility's design is to meet LEED standards for the 110,000 square-foot hangar. More on this story...
